Some members have wondered why there is variation in distance between the Walkingspree App and other equipment such as treadmills and other step trackers.
Different pedometers may measure steps and distances in somewhat different ways. The distance will vary slightly based on the pedometer you choose because of this. This is due to the fact that the distance is determined by multiplying your stride length by the total number of steps you take. The length of a person's stride will vary depending on their height.
Also, your stride length will differ if you run or walk more quickly than usual. On the other hand, the distance traveled on a treadmill is actually determined by how many times the tread has rotated, not by how you actually walk. It will also give an erroneous distance if someone's height or stride length was entered erroneously.
However, distance is only used for personal information. It doesn't count toward challenges (not even virtual walks), internal initiatives, or your step total. Your tally of steps is still correct. As a result, few people are concerned with distance discrepancies.
Note: Walkingspree calculates one mile for every 2000 steps synced with the app.
Happy Stepping!
